About Lakshadweep

Lakshadweep, India’s smallest Union Territory, is an archipelago comprising 36 islands, covering an area of 32 sq km. Classified as a uni-district Union Territory, it includes 12 atolls, three reefs, five submerged banks, and ten inhabited islands. The total area of the islands is 32 sq km, as stated by the government.

Kavaratti serves as both the capital and principal town of the Union Territory. Access to Lakshadweep islands is restricted, necessitating an entry permit issued by the Lakshadweep Administration for visitors, according to government regulations.

In the course of his visit to Lakshadweep, Prime Minister Modi launched development projects in Agatti on Tuesday, surpassing a total value of ₹1,150 crore. Furthermore, he officially commenced the Kochi-Lakshadweep Islands Submarine Optical Fiber Connection (KLI – SOFC) project, aimed at resolving the challenge of sluggish internet speed in the Union Territory.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Low-Temperature Thermal Desalination (LTTD) plant at Kadmat, designed to produce 1.5 lakh liters of clean drinking water daily. Additionally, Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) were inaugurated, extending to all households in Agatti and Minicoy islands.
